Europe
As New Zealand's second largest visitor market, the United
Kingdom remains a focus for Tourism New Zealand. However, economic
conditions have led to a decline in arrivals recently. The smaller
European markets have shown their resilience over the past year,
despite the global economic downturn, and many present good
opportunities for growth.
Visitor arrivals from Germanic Europe (Germany, Switzerland and
Austria) remain strong and opportunities have been identified to
further grow arrivals. Tourism New Zealand is working closely with
travel sellers and running campaign work in these markets in order
to drive travel to New Zealand.
The 100% Pure New Zealand campaign has recently been extended to
other parts of Europe including France and the Netherlands. Tourism
New Zealand is working in Scandinavia to maximise opportunities in
the youth travel market, and is also working to re-engage travel
sellers from Italy and Spain in the lead-up to Rugby World Cup
2011.
All of Tourism New Zealand's activity and travel seller
relationships in Europe are managed from the organisation's London
office. The market guides in this section cover our largest
European markets: the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
