Qualmark General Manager Tim Keeling says after 21 years, Qualmark has become an integral part of New Zealand's tourism industry, assisting tourism businesses to deliver the best possible experiences to international and domestic visitors alike.
"Today, one in every two commercial guest nights is spent in Qualmark-rated properties," says Tim.
"What began as a purely accommodation focused 'star ratings' provider has developed to a stage where it now represents over 2000 tourism business right across all aspects of the industry - accommodation, transport, activities and visitor services.
"With the industry now aligned under the collective vision of the Tourism 2025 growth framework, Qualmark is actively working with industry partners to support tourism operators as they seek to drive value through outstanding visitor experiences."
Tourism Industry Association Chief Executive Chris Roberts says Qualmark is more important than ever.
"Today's travellers have access to an enormous amount of information about the experiences and activities available to them. Qualmark's role as a trusted, independent evaluator is a critical element in ensuring New Zealand continues to offer high quality, world class visitor experiences which in turn will boost the tourism industry's contribution to New Zealand's wealth and wellbeing," Mr Roberts says.
Tim says the rest of the world has looked to the New Zealand Tourism industry to emulate what we have achieved through our commitment to quality standards and the independent evaluation of these experiences.
"Through innovative partnerships with organisations such as TripAdvisor, the preferential marketing through Tourism New Zealand and distribution support through the travel trade, Qualmark
businesses are benefiting from both the recognition and enhancement of their quality experiences.
"Feedback gathered from operators shows that 91% rate their Qualmark evaluation as very good or excellent and 85% rate the business advice received as very good or excellent."
