The event was organised by Tourism New Zealand and Prevue, a major American incentive and meetings publication.
“New Zealand is an attractive business events destination to the American market and with direct flights from Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and Honolulu, it has never been easier to bring the next incentive or conference to New Zealand. The inaugural event gave New Zealand suppliers the rare opportunity to spend face to face time with American business events organisers which was invaluable,” says Lisa Gardiner, Manager Business Events and Premium.
“New Zealand is standing out as a business events destination due to our reputation for being a place that is easy to do business with. We are known for our strong industry collaboration, niche knowledge and research areas and streamlined visa entry services for easy access.”
Tourism New Zealand works across the globe to attract international business events and supports the New Zealand business events industry by organising events like this to give suppliers a platform to engage in the market.
The two day summit included workshops on trends in the industry, tips on organising business events in long haul destinations and gave New Zealand suppliers the opportunity to showcase the New Zealand business events offering.
Hon Tim Grosser, Ambassador to the United States spoke at the event and said “With a variety of conference facilities large and small in New Zealand and major new conference facilities underway in Auckland, Christchurch, New Zealand is superbly placed to capture more of the multi-billion dollar conference business.”
“There is no doubt that New Zealand is in a very sweet spot right now – both generally in terms of our relatively strong economic performance and specifically in tourism. I received the strong impression from the participants at the Conference that there is a huge interest in New Zealand as a conference destination. We have the product, the services and the reputation to make this a winner for New Zealand”
Attendees included Air New Zealand, Auckland Convention Bureau, Auckland Conventions Venues and Events, Blunt, Extra Mile, Hobbiton Movie Set, IDNZ, Millennium Hotels and Resorts and United Airlines.
Alison Smith, Director of Conference and Incentives, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand Limited said “It was a fantastic opportunity to be introduced to that level of buyer. Events like this are where life time relationships are formed, and Kiwi are at their best, being real people with warmth and a wealth of information on our beautiful country.”
