Olivier Charmes, representing French tour operator Nomade Aventure, was one of the 309 international buyers to attend this year's event. Managed by the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA), TRENZ attracts wholesale, corporate and retail travel buyers from all over the world.
Olivier described his first TRENZ as "excellent", and said he is currently working on new tours that will include several new products that were on showcase during his trip to New Zealand.
Each year, Tourism New Zealand's in-market Trade teams identify high quality buyers to invite to attend TRENZ. Buyers come from New Zealand's traditional visitor markets, i.e. Australia, UK and USA, and also newer and fast-growing markets such as China and India.
The show not only offers face-to-face meetings with New Zealand operators, it also provides buyers with the opportunity to experience the very product they go on to promote, with a series of pre- and post-TRENZ famils.
This year Tourism New Zealand hosted 27 buyers from the UK, Latin America, Indonesia and Korea on different itineraries around the country.
It's not just international travel trade that come from afar for TRENZ - Tourism New Zealand's in-market PR teams help secure New Zealand's place in the international media spotlight by pitching the event to travel trade media in their regions.
This year, 15 international travel trade media attended TRENZ, including representatives from India, China, North America, Latin America, Australia, UK, Korea, Japan, Germany and Singapore. Thirteen of these were also hosted on famils after the event. While most are long lead publications, there was significant coverage during TRENZ itself.
This included a feature by Australia's Travel Talk Magazine (with a circulation of 20,000), calling TRENZ "one of the biggest and best trade shows in existence".
TRENZ will return to Rotorua in May 2016, hosted by eXplore Central North Island.
