More than forty international travel media were delivered the
message yesterday (4 April) that despite the Christchurch
earthquake, the rest of New Zealand is open and welcoming
international visitors.
Speaking at a media briefing at Australia's major annual tourism
trade show, the Australian Travel Exchange (ATE), Tourism New
Zealand CE Kevin Bowler said New Zealand was still as amazing as it
ever was.
"We're working to get the message out every way we can that New
Zealand is open, whether it is by using social media, paid
advertising, international media or by using opportunities such as
ATE."
Travel agents and wholesalers from 40 countries attended ATE,
with Tourism New Zealand part of the event showcasing New Zealand
for the first time.
During the 45 minute presentation which included questions and
answers, Mr Bowler spoke about Tourism New Zealand's response the
Earthquake, its current focus, its overall marketing strategy and
outlook.
Mr Bowler said he was grateful for the invitation from Tourism
Australia to participate at ATE at a time when both countries were
responding to recent natural disasters. He had reciprocated and
returned the invitation for Tourism Australia to visit TRENZ, he
said.
"As well as outlining our immediate priorities, the event
provided us with a great opportunity to showcase many reasons why
people should travel, including our sensational snow season,
greater air access, Rugby World Cup 2011 and off course the great
exchange rate; particularly for Australians coming to New
Zealand."
