Tourism New Zealand’s role is to market New Zealand off-shore as a desirable visitor destination, to New Zealand’s target market. This is done through the 100% Pure New Zealand marketing campaign.
Tourism New Zealand has about 130 staff, approximately half of which work in overseas offices in places such as London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Sydney, Mumbai, Tokyo, Shanghai and Singapore. Everything Tourism New Zealand does incorporates the 100% Pure New Zealand message. The Marketing team, based in Auckland, work on the campaign. Components include advertising, which takes place in our key markets of Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan. The internet also plays an important role, with a suite of sites based around the website targeted at potential visitors - www.newzealand.com. This site now has around 350,000 users a month. Other websites are targeted at overseas travel trade, overseas media, and overseas media and trade needing photographs to promote New Zealand through their business. The product marketing team looks at encouraging the capability of New Zealand businesses, while the events team works on creating and linking with targeted existing events to promote New Zealand as a destination.
Media coverage is one of the most credible ways of conveying information about New Zealand, and Tourism New Zealand’s IMP team help journalists with story ideas, develop itineraries, and bring them to New Zealand to experience it for themselves.Visit www.media.newzealand.com for more information. Working with the overseas travel trade is also an important aspect of the work that Tourism New Zealand does. This is looked after by the Operations team, the second-largest team at TNZ. The team includes the overseas offices and a support team in Wellington. Various training initiatives both on and offshore are implemented by this team, including small group training sessions, itinerary planning and familirisation activities.
The Tourism Development team works with the New Zealand industry on capability issues, such as quality, information provision, policies and planning. Corporate Communications deals with external and internal communication, making sure that Tourism New Zealand’s stakeholders are informed about tourism and Tourism New Zealand activity. This incorporates external publications and websites. Corporate Services is the financial and organisational hub, covering finances, planning, legal services, human resources, technology and office management. Vacancies, (regardless of location) available at Tourism New Zealand are always published on our corporate website www.tourismnewzealand.com under the About Us section. If the role is based in New Zealand, the advertisements will usually be placed in either the New Zealand Herald or the Dominion Post depending on where the position is located. |
