Competitors for New Zealand

As in other areas of Europe, the strength of the Euro against the US dollar means that the US is predicted to be a favourite destination in the coming year. The rising value of the Euro against the US dollar saw more than 1.5 million German visitor arrivals to the US in 2007, a 10 per cent increase on 2006.

Outbound airline capacity continues to grow with Cathay Pacific currently working on a second daily service to Hong Kong out of Frankfurt . Korean Air is adding three weekly flights from Munich to Seoul as of June 2008, and a total of 58 weekly connections are now available into China .

Tourism New Zealand Activity

100% Pure New Zealand advertising activity in January and February, focussed on television, outdoor digital screens, online and carefully selected print media. The ‘Great Walks’ campaign has also launched in Germany , supported by an interactive German language feature on newzealand.com.

In December 2007, 120 key travel sellers trained with key partners Best of Travel and Boomerang Reisen.

Recent International Media Programme results included aten page story on New Zealand wine in Der Feinschmecker (98,200 circ.) in March and a New Zealand supplement with partner advertising and travel deals in daily newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung (400,000 circ.).

In online activity, a New Zealand promotion and blog featured on wissen.de, attracting 86,000 entries into a competition run by Tourism New Zealand partner, Wikinger Reisin.
