Naoki steps into the position from the role of Trade Development Manager, Japan, bringing the strong and enduring relationships he has developed over his 22-year career with Tourism New Zealand to the role.
David Craig, Tourism New Zealand General Manager, Asia is pleased to have promoted one of the organisation’s most respected and longest serving team members.
“Naoki brings unparalleled experience to the role and a passion for New Zealand that burns as intensely after 22 years as it did on his first day on the job!
“Naoki has played a key role in turning Japan around in the last couple of years. He is highly respected both inside and outside of Tourism New Zealand and I’m confident that he will lead the team to continued success,” says David.
For the year ended June 2015, visitor arrivals from Japan grew 11.8 per cent to a total of 84k, with holiday arrivals up even further at 14.1 per cent to 55k.
Chief Executive Kevin Bowler says: “Japan is a key market for New Zealand, is currently in double digit growth and holds good future potential.”
“The growth from Japan looks set to continue due to a large about-to-retire-baby-boomer demographic, strong airline capacity commitments and improving consumer confidence.”
Naoki’s new position leading Japan’s team of four is effective immediately.
