New infographic brings visitor trends to life

A new infographic, developed by Tourism New Zealand’s Insights team, demonstrates the growing value of the tourism industry and what international visitors really think about their time in New Zealand.

Based on research pulled from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's (MBIE) International Visitor Survey (IVS), the infographic looks at the visitor experience in New Zealand.

The infographic - which looks at data for the year ended June 2015 - shows some encouraging insights into our international visitors. Overall international visitors rated their experience in New Zealand 9.1 out of 10 with 94 per cent of respondents saying their holiday in New Zealand met or exceeded their expectations.

The data reaffirms that New Zealand is creating strong advocates. New Zealand has a Net Promoter Score of 76% - which is very strong. Visitors from the USA, UK, Germany and Australia are our biggest advocates – while there is an opportunity to create more advocates in the Asian markets.

Overall satisfaction is strong across all areas of the visitor experiences with natural landscapes and scenery consistently a top factor in influencing visitors to choose New Zealand, and New Zealand achieves strong satisfaction of our environment and environmental management.

However the data does highlight opportunities to improve in some areas. Cost is a common link amongst dissatisfaction with food and beverage, accommodation and transport. Increased access to free Wi-Fi may also help to drive visitor satisfaction.
