The MoU details the two organisation's commitment to jointly promote New Zealand tourism in China.
The effective start date of the new three year agreement was 1 July 2013 and it will be valid up to 30 June 2016.
The two organisations will jointly explore opportunities to promote tourism to New Zealand.
The activities under the MOU may include:
• Brand advertising and promotional campaigns;
• Tactical promotional campaigns;
• Public Relations;
• Major Trade Shows;
• Special events;
• Distribution development; and
• Other mutually agreed activities.
The intent is for Tourism New Zealand and China Southern Airlines to implement fully integrated campaigns across multiple channels encompassing consumer, trade, media and on-line where possible. The two organisations are making equal financial commitments to the multi-million dollar agreement.
China Southern Airlines flies a daily direct service from Guangzhou to Auckland, which will extend to ten flights per week this summer. China Southern will be the first airline to fly the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on a New Zealand route.
President and Chief Executive Officer of China Southern Airlines, Mr Tan Wangeng says; "We enjoy a very good relationship with Tourism New Zealand and this new agreement serves to further strengthen our cooperation, communication and friendship with New Zealand."
GM Corporate Affairs Chris Roberts signed the MoU on Tourism New Zealand's behalf.
He says; "China Southern Airlines have played an important role in boosting China to become New Zealand's second largest source of international visitors. The increased service this summer and this new three year marketing agreement demonstrate China Southern's very welcome commitment to the on-going development of New Zealand as a destination for Chinese travellers."
