Based on the search activity of 50 million users per month, data released by travel search website Skyscanner shows a 52 per cent increase in the number of searches for New Zealand compared to this time last year.
India is an important emerging market for New Zealand and the figures have been welcomed by Tourism New Zealand’s Regional Manager South and South East Asia, Steven Dixon. He says “it’s fantastic to see our public relations efforts paying off in the emerging Indian market. I think the work we’ve been doing with our Indian ambassador Sidharth Malhotra over the past two years has contributed significantly to the spike in Indians considering New Zealand as their number one holiday destination.”
Bollywood actor and former model Malhotra first visited New Zealand in 2015. His heavy social media presence while in the country generated engagement from 2.8 million fans, including 57,000 users engaging with each of his Facebook posts.
Last month Sidharth returned to New Zealand for a second time, visiting different regions and tourist attractions.
