TNZ promotes 100% Pure Choice with new social media activity

Tourism New Zealand is leveraging off the positive attention the legalisation of gay marriage in NZ has generated in Australia with the launch of social media activity - 100% Pure Choice.

The activity follows the New Zealand Government passing the Marriage Amendment Act last week, making New Zealand the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to legalise gay marriage.

Tim Burgess, General Manager Australia says, "There has been a very positive response from same sex couples in Australia, many of which are interested in a New Zealand wedding.

"In response, we are using social media - such as our Facebook page, to create further conversation and fully leverage off the interest it is generating for destination New Zealand. 

Activity was immediately undertaken on the Australian version of the 100% Pure New Zealand Facebook page, with a '100% Pure Choice' image in rainbow colours posted to the page. Since Thursday 18 April the post has generated over 3,000 'likes'.

Planning is underway for further activity with a competition for gay couples to win a luxury wedding in New Zealand.

"While Tourism New Zealand already markets to the wedding and honeymoon sectors, it does not generally specifically target the gay and lesbian community. 

"However we believe that New Zealand is a great destination for a wedding, honeymoon or romantic getaway - for all travellers - and our future activity will show just how easy it is for same sex couples to cross the Tasman for a wedding in New Zealand."
