The competition, running from 12 May to 1 June, is open to all travellers who have a great photo to share of their "must do" New Zealand experience. By simply sharing their captioned photo on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter accounts, tagging the friend they'd love to travel with and including the hashtag #NZMustDo they could be in to win their favourite holiday experience for two in New Zealand.
Andrew Fraser, Tourism New Zealand's Director of Marketing, says the campaign has been created in response to the success of hashtag #NZMustDo, which has seen more than 50,000 photos published to Instagram alone in the past year.
"This competition presents a great opportunity for everyone in the tourism industry to generate a real buzz about New Zealand by reaching out to their international visitors and networks and encouraging them to share their most memorable Kiwi travel experiences."
Andrew says word of mouth remains the number one factor in travel decision-making.
"According to Facebook's research, up to 50 per cent of people say they were inspired to visit a destination after seeing a friend's photo shared on the social networking site. The great thing about this campaign is that it will get friends sharing their New Zealand travel recommendations with their friends."
Tourism New Zealand will announce 10 finalists via a Facebook album on 4 June. Facebook fans will then have until 10 June to vote for the winner, whose name will be announced on 13 June.
The prize includes two return international airfares flying Air New Zealand and seven nights' accommodation, activities and transfers.
The launch of this campaign coincides with a milestone for Tourism New Zealand's global Instagram and Twitter accounts with both surpassing 100,000 fans last week. This takes the @purenewzealand global social community beyond 2.2 million.
