“Despite borders being open New Zealanders are still enjoying their backyard and we will continue to encourage this.”

“With Kiwis now able to travel offshore, it’s fantastic to see that the number of New Zealanders who still intend to travel domestically is strong at 63%, only a 5-point drop from the last research.”

The main motivations for taking a domestic holiday are still that Kiwis feel they need a break, want to see more of New Zealand and explore new places.

“New Zealanders overwhelmingly agree that New Zealand delivers as a holiday destination when they do travel. In particular New Zealand is viewed as safe to travel around, offering lots of interesting things to see and do, and providing a range of great food and drink options,” he says.

The research helps guide Tourism New Zealand’s activity and is shared with industry to help tourism businesses attract the domestic audience.
